Who We Are And What This Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy applies to the Skills mobile app and the Skills website at getskillsapp.com. Skills is currently operated by Jaakko Nygren in Finland. For the limited personal data described in this policy, Jaakko Nygren is the data controller.

Privacy questions can be sent to privacy@getskillsapp.com.

Privacy At A Glance

Skills is a local-first calisthenics video analysis app. You choose a training video, the app analyzes movement on your device, and the app stores the resulting skill history on your device.

We do not operate a backend service that receives your videos, pose data, analysis results, progress history, or behavioral app-usage data. We do not sell personal data or use your videos for model training. Local movement analysis provides fitness feedback only and does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

If you contact us or purchase a paid feature, email, app-store, and purchase-service providers handle limited information as described below. Those records remain separate from your local videos and movement analysis.

Information Processed On Your Device

To provide the app's core features, Skills may access and process the following information locally on your device:

  • videos that you choose to import into the app;
  • video dates, available recording-device details, locally derived city and country, and thumbnails needed for local playback, library organization, and analysis. Exact coordinates embedded in a selected video are used transiently for the offline place lookup and are not copied into the catalog. The unchanged source video may retain its original embedded metadata locally;
  • pose landmarks, movement timelines, proposed or confirmed skill segments, repetition counts, hold durations, confidence values, and related analysis diagnostics generated from your selected videos;
  • local skill history, saved attempts, achievements, and app settings created while you use Skills;
  • purchase or entitlement status used to unlock or restore a paid feature, if you buy one through an app store;
  • exported videos or images if you choose to create an export.

This information is used to import and play videos, run on-device analysis, show the skeleton overlay, measure supported attempts, save progress, restore results, and create exports you request.

Information We May Receive

The Skills app does not send us or the purchase service provider your videos, photos, pose data, body movement data, fitness progress, local skill history, advertising identifiers, attribution data, precise location, contacts, or behavioral app-usage events during normal use. The purchase service provider receives only the purchase and limited technical information described below.

If you email us, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message, device or app details, and any attachments. We use it only to respond, troubleshoot, protect the service, and maintain reasonable support records.

The Skills website does not use advertising cookies or analytics scripts. GitHub Pages, Apple, Google, your browser, or your mobile operating system may process limited technical, store, purchase, or user-submitted diagnostic information to host the website, deliver the app, process payments, provide updates, or operate platform features. Their processing is governed by their own privacy policies and settings. We may receive limited or aggregate platform reports, but they do not include your local videos, pose data, or skill history.

Purchases And Paid Features

If paid features are available and you choose to purchase one, Apple processes the purchase through the App Store or Google processes it through Google Play. We also use a third-party purchase and entitlement service provider to verify purchases and manage paid access. Our current provider is RevenueCat, Inc., which acts as a service provider and data processor on our behalf.

The purchase service uses a random, pseudonymous purchaser identifier that is not linked by Skills to a name, email address, Skills account, or advertising identifier. RevenueCat calls this an anonymous App User ID. Skills does not send customer attributes, attribution data, or behavioral analytics events to the purchase service.

Apple, Google, and the purchase service may process that identifier; product, transaction, purchase, subscription, entitlement, renewal, cancellation, refund, receipt, or purchase-token information; and limited technical information such as platform, app and SDK version, device type, operating-system version, locale, currency, request and last-seen times, and an IP-address-derived country.

This information is used only to present current offers; process, verify, restore, refund, and manage purchases and entitlements; prevent fraud; provide purchase support and purchase analytics; and meet accounting, tax, security, and legal obligations. Purchase data is encrypted in transit. Depending on the context, this processing is necessary to provide the requested purchase, comply with legal obligations, and pursue our legitimate interests in support, security, fraud prevention, and purchase analytics. Neither Skills nor the purchase service receives your full payment card number, bank account information, or other full payment credentials. No workout, body, biometric, video, pose, movement-analysis, skill-history, achievement, or export content is sent to the purchase service.

RevenueCat processes this limited information under its data processing agreement, uses subprocessors, and hosts customer data in the United States with contractual safeguards for international transfers. For more information, see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy. If the purchase service changes, the purposes and data-minimization rules described in this section will continue to apply, and we will update the named provider where required.

Sharing

Skills does not share your local videos, pose data, movement analysis, skill history, or behavioral app-usage events with us, advertisers, analytics providers, purchase service providers, or model-training systems.

We do not sell personal data or share personal data for cross-app tracking or advertising.

If you choose to export a video, save a file, use the operating-system share sheet, send a support email, or manually share content with another app or service, that action is initiated by you. The destination you choose handles the shared content under its own privacy policy.

Storage, Retention, And Deletion

Videos and analyses saved in Skills are stored locally on your device unless you choose to export or share them. They remain there until you delete them in the app, delete the app, erase your device, or your operating system removes the app data.

Because we do not receive or store your app library on our servers, we usually cannot access, recover, or delete your local videos or analyses for you. You control that data on your own device.

On iOS, app-managed videos, analyses, and skill history may be included in a device backup managed by Apple when you enable iCloud Backup and include Skills. On supported Android versions, the local Skills library may be included in operating-system-managed device-to-device migration. Android's quota-limited cloud Auto Backup may include the compact local catalog, such as analysis summaries, achievement records, dates, derived city/country, and available recording-device details. Skills excludes source videos, thumbnails, exported media, and full pose packages from Android cloud Auto Backup. Derived or reproducible files may also be excluded from these backup and migration paths.

Operating-system backup and migration are controlled by your Apple or Google account and device settings. They do not send data to Skills, and Skills does not currently operate its own cloud backup service or store your library in an app-created iCloud Drive or Google Drive folder.

Support emails are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to resolve your request, protect the service, and maintain appropriate support records. Store- and purchase-service-provided purchase and business records may be retained for the periods required for fulfillment, restoration, refunds, accounting, tax, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, and legal compliance. When records are no longer needed, we and our service providers delete or anonymize them where practical.

Permissions

Skills asks for access only when it is needed for a feature. The app uses the system video picker so you can choose a training video and may request permission to save an export when you ask the app to create one.

You can change app permissions in your device settings. Some features may stop working if a required permission is disabled. The core analysis flow does not require camera, microphone, or live location access.

Security

Skills reduces privacy risk by keeping analysis local and avoiding unnecessary data collection. Local app data is protected by the security controls of your device, including the mobile operating system's app sandbox and any device lock, encryption, and backup settings you enable.

No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure. Protect your device with a passcode or biometric lock and take care when exporting or sharing videos that may show your body, training environment, other people, or private surroundings.

Children

Skills is intended for older teens and adults and is not directed to children under 13. Because core app data stays on the user's device, we do not receive videos or analysis data through normal app use.

If a parent or guardian believes a child has sent personal data to us by email without appropriate authorization, contact us so we can take appropriate steps. A parent or guardian is responsible for supervising a minor's use of the app, local videos, exports, purchases, and device sharing settings.

Your Choices And Rights

You choose which videos to import, whether to create exports, and when to delete local app data. You can also uninstall Skills to remove app-managed local data from your device, subject to your operating system's backup and migration behavior.

For personal data we actually hold, such as support emails or limited purchase and business records, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a copy of your data. Contact privacy@getskillsapp.com to make a request. We may need to verify your identity, and some rights may be limited by legal or record-keeping obligations.

For a purchase-data request, include your random purchaser or support identifier if it is available in the app. We will use it only to find the relevant purchase record and, where appropriate, instruct the purchase service provider to fulfill the request. Deleting a purchase record does not cancel a store-managed purchase or subscription.

You can manage or restore paid access through the App Store or Google Play account that handled the purchase. Refunds, family sharing, and other store-level controls follow the relevant store's rules. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Finland, the supervisory authority is the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman.

Future Features

If Skills adds optional accounts, cloud sync, human review, remote coaching, crash analytics, or another feature that changes how personal data is collected, used, shared, retained, or deleted, we will update this policy and provide any required notice or consent before enabling that data flow in a public release.

Changes To This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes or as legal, platform, or store requirements change. The effective date at the top of the page shows when the policy was last updated. When practical, we will highlight material changes on the website or in the app.
